Nutrition educator, researcher, coach, and a woman navigating the menopause transition right alongside you.Hi, I'm Shontelle.
At 49, after a 25-year gap year, I returned to Canada and started a long-overdue degree in Nutrition and Food as a full-time student, wife, and mom, while navigating my own menopause transition. So when I talk about disrupted sleep, changing body composition, or trying to eat well on a chaotic day, it's not theoretical - I bring lived experience.
Those 25 years took me through the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore — raising a family across food cultures very different from Canada's, and watching women navigate this transition in equally different ways. It's part of why I believe so firmly that good nutrition advice has to meet people where they live — their kitchens, their cultures, their actual lives.
What I kept finding, both in my own search and in the research, was a gap. Menopause advice tends to come in two flavours: clinical information that's accurate but hard to use at the grocery store, and marketing that's easy to use but built on hype, not evidence — and often does more harm than good. Women deserve better than a choice between the two.
Hello Pause is my answer: evidence-based nutrition for the menopause transition, translated into real food and real habits — without restriction, without fear, and without pretending one nutrient or product will fix everything.
The name is the philosophy. Hello — a greeting to embrace this new stage, without fear. Pause — for what your body's asking of you now, which is different from what it asked at 30. Change isn't an ending; it's an invitation to prioritize yourself.

I believe you should know exactly who you're taking nutrition information from, so here's where I stand:
I also bring lived experience; translating evidence into practical actions for everyday people is my specialty. Nutrition and movement are foundations of an easier menopause transition and of long-term health, and I believe small, sustainable steps lead to the biggest change. One percent better, consistently, beats perfect and unsustainable every time.
What you can expect from Hello Pause
Evidence over ideology: I ground everything in research, hedge where the science is still emerging, and update when the evidence changes. You'll hear "studies suggest" more than "studies prove" because that's how honest nutrition science talks.
Balance over fixation. Protein matters during this transition. So does fibre. So do sleep, movement, and stress. No single nutrient is the hero, and nothing here will tell you to fear food.
Prevention as the point. Nutrition and physical activity are foundational to long-term health — for energy now and for strength, cognition, and independence decades from now. The choices we make through this transition matter, and they get to be enjoyable.
Health for all. Whatever your starting point — already lifting weights, just out of a long break, never been "a fitness person" at all ? There is a path that works for your life. Hello Pause meets you where you are. No diet culture. No detoxes, no "guilt-free," no earning your meals. Just practical, satisfying food that supports how you want to feel.
I'm here as a supporter, accountability buddy, and a voice in the daily conversation about this stage of life.
